Learning outcomes
The course provides students with the basic concepts to perform a joint, muscular and muscle length assessment.
The expected learning outcomes are:
KNOWLEDGE:
- Know the indications, contraindications and precautions to perform a joint and muscoalr evaluation
- Know the steps to perform joint, muscular and circumferential measurement of the limbs
- Know the main measurement systems of the joint excursion
- Know the main gradations of muscle strength (conventional, against resistance, to gravity eliminated, isometric, etc.)
SKILLS:
- Prepare the setting to perform a joint and muscular evaluation
- Apply the principles of ergonomics during the execution of the evaluations
- Perform precise, accurate dexterity evaluation of joint excursion, muscle strength and circumferential limb measurement
Program
The course will cover the following topics:
- The articular evaluation of the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, foot and trunk districts and the goniometric measurement.
- The muscular evaluation of the muscles of the shoulder, elbow and forearm, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, foot and trunk. The conventional gradation of muscular strength, the gradation of muscular strength against resistance in severely eliminated conditions, the isometric gradation of muscle strength.
- The assessment of muscular length and its measurement.

Examination Methods
The exam is a written test with 20 multiple-choice and short-answer questions on the topics covered in the lecture and a practical test in which students will be required to perform on a simulated patient a joint assessment, a muscle assessment, and a muscle length assessment. The districts that will be covered in the exam are those covered and tested during the lectures.
