Program
It will offer at first a general a geographic and chronological framing and a historical contextualization of the subject (birth of orientalism, evolution in colonialist and postcolonialist times, current events). Subsequently a broad historical-archaeological topic, specifically the history of Biblo, a city on the Lebanese coast, will be explored and analyzed. This in-depth study aims to illustrate how different methodological approaches can be applied to the same topic (archaeological evidence, archival documents, coeval historical texts...) and thus initiate the use of material, literary and secondary literature sources.

Oral exam.
The exam will focus on topics and materials illustrated during the lessons, as well as on the reference texts that will be indicated during the course.
Evaluation criteria
The exam will evaluate the ability to illustrate specific topics of the program in order to demonstrate the knowledge of the proposed subjects and the abilities in analysis, synthesis and methodological evaluation.
