Learning objectives
Knowledge for the construction and management of both lower and upper limb prostheses. Technique of creating the negative and positive model. Concept of measurement. Measurement, Experimentation, Monitoring, Diagnostics. Measurement chain, Sensors, Transducers, Conditioners, Acquisitors. Notions on the construction of exoskeletons for pathologies of neurological-orthopaedic interest. Elements of performance verification and testing techniques. Notions of statistics applied to experimental research and technological analyses. BIOENGINEERING FOR ARTIFICIAL ORGANS, PROSTHESIS AND THEIR CONSTRUCTION: acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge for the construction and management of both lower and upper limb prostheses. Leaning the technique of creating the negative and positive model both traditional and Cad Cam, carbon and innovative resins lamination. 3D printing using state-of-the- art materials. MECHANICAL AND THERMAL MEASUREMENTS, TESTS: the course intends to address the main issues related to mechanical measurements and verifications aimed at performance verifications and tests. STATISTICS FOR EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH: General notions on measurement: definitions and regulations. General configurations of measuring instruments and functional block diagrams. Applications of instrumentation in various fields: examples. Static calibration and calibration curve. Statistical data analysis. Metrological features: accuracy, precision: definitions and regulations, analysis and calculation. Concept of average and variation. Probability distribution. Random errors and bias. Basic descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Correlation and association statistics. Prediction statistics: Cox analysis, survival analysis, Kaplan-Meyer curves. Diagnostics: precision and specificity, ROC curves. Systematic reviews and meta-analysis: definition, data interpretation. The main statistical tests will be shown in application as output of statistical software.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade will be the weighted average of the grade obtained for "BIONGEGNERIA ORGANI ARTIFICIALI PROTESI E LORO COSTRUZIONI" , "MISURE MECCANICHE, TERMICHE E COLLAUDI" e "STATISTICA PER LA RICERCA SPERIMENTALE", with weights the credits of the 3 courses (3, 3 and 2 credits, respectively).
