Program

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge about orthoses and devices used for managing motor and non-motor symptoms resulting from disabling diseases of different etiologies.
The program is composed of the following topics:
1. Orthotic prescription
2. Principle of fabrication
3. Principle ad components of spinal orthoses
4. Orthoses for spinal pain
5. Orthoses for spinal deformities
6. Orthoses for spinal trauma and postoperative care
7. Orthoses for osteoporosis
8. Principle and components of upper limb orthoses
9. Upper limb orthoses for the stroke and brain-injured patient
10. Upper limb orthoses for persons with spinal cord injuries and brachial plexus injuries
11. Orthoses for the burned hand
12. Orthotic treatment considerations for arthritis and overuse syndromes in the upper limb

Learning assessment procedures

Ongoing tests and a final written (open questions) (30 mins) and oral exam (15 mins) will be carryout to test the learned knowledge

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The exams will be evaluated with marks out of thirty. The exame will test the following aspects: the knowledge on the topic, the ability to organize and discuss the learned knowledge, the critical reasoning and the use of scientific terms/nosologies
