Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide the students with the basic tools and skills to independently design the cover of a book according to the canons of the contemporary publishing industry.
Program
The course will focus in explaining the role of the cover in the current publishing market situation, concerning stylistical, technical and communicational aspects. During the course will be analyzed the works and the creative methods of top of the notch contemporary designers. Moreover, students will be guided to get acquainted with the main aspects of creating a book jacket, starting from reading the manuscript and proceeding up to the graphic realization using softwares such as Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop.

Examination Methods
The exam will consist of two tests in progress. Each test will consist in designing a book jacket for each of the novels assigned (see reference books). The jackets will be evaluated taking into account the overall graphic quality and the concept as well. More details and guidelines will be provided in class.
