Learning outcomes
The course aims to address and explain the printing techniques from movable type to contemporary industrial processes. Writing tools and supports and publishing processes will be considered as well. Moreover, the course will take into consideration the professions involved in the creation and distribution of the editorial artefacts. Particular attention will be given to printing machines and technological evolution from the end of the nineteenth century to the contemporary age.
Program
The course will focus on the printing processes and in particular on the developmental phases of books and other publishing products. The printing techniques will be defined and explained, deepened into the productive aspects of the editorial artefact. The cours will handle typologies of typefaces and finally the different kind of supports. Finally, the course will describe and analyze various printing machines.
Bibliography
Examination Methods
The exam will take place in oral form and will assess knowledge of bibliography and materials uploaded on the e-learning platform. The exam will aim to evalute the depth and breadth of acquired knowledge, the property of language, the ability to connect such knowledge and the ability to exemplify techniques.
