Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the knowledge of modern and contemporary Italian literature; present and analyze texts by Italian authors under a historical, critical and formal point of view.

Prerequisites and basic notions

A good knowledge of oral and written Italian and a basic knowledge of Twentieth century Italian literature is required.

Program

Il corso intende offrire un quadro storico-critico della letteratura italiana contemporanea con particolare riferimento al romanzo e al racconto di primo Novecento.
È previsto un primo modulo dedicato ai fondamenti della narratologia, cui seguirà un’introduzione storico-letteraria sulla categoria di modernismo e sui suoi rapporti con la tradizione, le avanguardie, le riviste e con le altre tendenze della prosa novecentesca (frammentismo, prosa d’arte).
Il corso prenderà in seguito in esame alcuni dei romanzi e dei racconti più rappresentativi del periodo: "Con gli occhi chiusi" (1919) e una selezione di novelle raccolte in "Giovani" (1920) di Federigo Tozzi, "La coscienza di Zeno" (1923) e una selezione di racconti di Italo Svevo.
A partire da una discussione relativa ai generi letterari e dalla lettura commentata dei testi, verranno discusse le principali questioni di carattere formale, narratologico, storico-critico.
A conclusione del corso verranno illustrati i principali cambiamenti relativi alla narrativa degli anni Trenta.

Learning assessment procedures

L’esame finale, valutato in trentesimi, prevede l’accertamento delle conoscenze acquisite attraverso una prova orale che verterà sui contenuti del corso e sulla bibliografia specifica (diversa per gli studenti non frequentanti).
La prova prevede un numero di domande equamente suddiviso tra la parte introduttiva e la sezione dedicata alla lettura commentata dei testi.

Evaluation criteria

Durante l'esame verrà verificata la capacità degli studenti di orientarsi nel panorama storico-letterario novecentesco e di collocarvi i testi analizzati. Verrà inoltre valutata la capacità di utilizzare autonomamente gli strumenti d’analisi narratologica e stilistica, e di discutere e commentare i principali concetti teorici e storico-critici.
