Program
The Digital lab in literature and philology aims to tackle in practice the problem of textual reading and analysis through a digital approach. In the first part of the lab (8 hours lectures held by the instructor, the schedule will be available on the Moodle) the class will be introduced to the topic and exposed to some of the most widely used tools for digital text analysis, for example encoding through XML/TEI standards, text reading and analysis through tools such as Voyant or TAPoR 3.0.
The student will then agree with the instructor to work on a topic selected on the grounds of specific interests (literature or philology) and languages studied. With the help of the lab tutor, he/she will prepare a project-work in which he/she will select and use one or more methodologies to answer a research question on the previously agreed case-study (e.g. a historical text preserved in a manuscript, a novel, a corpus of poems, a play, etc.). The project work should be concluded by the first exam call of the courses of Germanic Philology.
