Learning objectives
The course aims at leading students to know in detail the history of the English language; attention will also be dedicated to the linguistic analysis of Old English, Middle English and Early Modern English texts. By the end of the course students will be aware of the diversified factors affecting the development of the English language and will be able to understand and analyze texts from its different historical periods.

B) LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF EXTRACTS FROM OLD ENGLISH, MIDDLE ENGLISH AND EARLY MODERN ENGLISH TEXTS
NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS: non-attending students are required to study the two texts mentioned on the webpage of the course.

SUPPLEMENTARY TEACHING METHODS:
The supplementary teaching materials are uploaded on the Moodle platform.
Students are invited to contact the teacher via email or during office hours for further needs.
Students in particularly fragile situations, unable to attend lessons due to particularly disabling conditions or learning disabilities are invited to contact the "Inclusion and Accessibility Service", which will work with the teacher to help them in the best possible way.
Learning assessment procedures
ORAL EXAMINATION
The test will focus on the following topics:

2) LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF EXTRACTS OF OLD ENGLISH, MIDDLE ENGLISH AND EARLY MODERN ENGLISH TEXTS
Non-attending students: oral exam on the two texts suggested on the web page of the course.
Evaluation criteria
- Mastery of the topics covered;
- language competence with reference to the exam topics;
- ability to frame the proposed topics and to articulate and deepen the answers;
- clarity and effectiveness.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The exam will consist in one single oral examination.
