- Protection of plant and animal products for human consumption from pests: diagnosis, pest ecology/biology. Arthropod detection techniques in commodities and processing environments. Molecular techniques for the characterization and identification of arthropods of economic relevance.
- Pest control strategies: biotechnological, chemical, physical, integrated control.
- Biology, harmfulness and control of the main pest species (insects, mites, micro-mammals).
- Arthropods as vectors of human diseases. Legislative references for the pest management in food chain production.
- Characteristics of the main phytopathogenic organisms, of agents of rotting and of and alterations during conservation of foodstuffs.
- Predisposing factors for the development and spread of post-harvest diseases
- Diagnosis and characterization of phytopathogenic organisms involved in post-harvest alterations of seeds and food, especially those involved in mycotoxin production.
- Methods of prevention and defense from the main post-harvest diseases and risks associated with the use of phytosanitary products

Evaluation of learning by means of an oral exam about the contents of the course.
Evaluation criteria
To pass the exam, students must demonstrate a solid knowledge of the basic concepts of the discipline and the ability to propose solutions to prevent or mitigate the harmful consequences of biotic adversities in the food industry.
The determination of the score of the two sections AGR / 11 Entomology and AGR / 12 will include the evaluation both the frontal lessons and the laboratory activities.
The overall grade of the exam will be calculated as the weighted average of grades obtained in the two sections.
