Learning objectives
The course provides an overview of the archaeological disciplines through an introduction to the methods, strategies and to the role and meaning of archeology in present society.

Program
The topics addressed during the lectures will be: - Archeology and current society: the significance of archaeological sites and their audience; - Archaeological research: excavation methods and techniques; - Computer science and archeology; - Archaeological finds: methods and systems of knowledge; - The study of landscapes and archeology; - Archaeologist profession: work and perspectives in the cultural heritage sector. The lecture notes / slides are also subject to examination. Reference texts for the course: C. Renfrew, P. Bahn, L'essenziale di archeologia, Bologna 2016. A. Augenti, Digging into the past, Carocci, Rome 2020. For non-attending students also the text: G. Volpe, Archeologia publishes in Italy. Methods, techniques, experiences, Rome 2019.

The exam will be carried out through a written test that will be illustrated during the course. This can be supplemented, at the request of the student, by a short oral interview.
