Learning outcomes

The course aims to offer a comparative look at some characteristical topics of the Russian culture, including comparisons with other Slavic cultures. At the end of the course students are expected to:
1) know some topics of the Russian culture, including their relationships with other cultures;
2) apply the acquired knowledge to the analysis of the literary works presented during the classes, also in a comparatistical way;
3) have the ability to formulate autonomous judgments about the main themes of the course, and to explain them correctly and coherently.

Program

The inner metamorphosis in the "Crime and Punishment" ofF. M. Dostoevskij and "Resurrection" byof L. N. Tolstoj.

The course offers an in-depth study of these two classic works through analytical, historical-critical, biographical, psychological, philosophical and comparative strategies.

Examination Methods

Oral exam. It will consist of a colloquium in order to verify the understanding of the two literary works mentioned in the theme and the knowledge of the contents presented during the course. The student also has to prepare a comparison of some aspect chosen freely from two works and reported in a short essay o scheme. It also requires the reading of some monographs on L. Tolstoy and F. Dostoevkij.
