Learning outcomes
The expected learning outcomes will be: A - Know and understand: 1. the main theories that explain the different cognitive development processes in early childhood and the related research methods. 2. the mechanisms and processes that can favor and enhance cognitive development in different contexts during early childhood. B. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: 1. to promote the ability to use the knowledge described above to promote development in the different educational contexts for children aged 0-3 years. 2. to encourage the knowledge of direct and indirect observational methodologies useful to study the development of cognitive processes in the 0-3 years period.
Program
The contents of the course will be: 1. Introduction to the study of cognitive processes in the age period 0-3 years, methods of research. 2. Main theories of cognitive development (classical theories and new orientations). 3. The development of motor, cognitive and metacognitive skills in the age period 0-3 years. 4. Cognitive basis of language. 5. The development of the ability to read and understand the emotions and intentions of others.

Examination Methods
Objectives and contents: Students should demonstrate: the understanding of the main theoretical and methodological approaches in the field of the psychology of cognitive development; the understanding of the stages of cognitive development during the 0-3 year period; the ability to communicate their knowledge using an appropriate language, citing relevant bibliographical references.
Methods and evaluation: written exam. More information will be provided during the course.
