Learning objectives
The course provides the fundamental concepts of General Chemistry and some basics of Inorganic Chemistry. Moreover, models and general concepts as means of justification and prediction of physical and chemical properties of systems of increasing degree of complexity (atoms, molecules, substances, multi-component systems, both homogeneous and heterogeneous) are illustrated and discussed. Concepts and methods for predicting qualitative and quantitative changes of intensive and extensive properties of evolving chemical systems will be also considered. Stoichiometry exercises will be solved to acquire competences to manage real problems of chemical interest. The course will consider some practical experiences in laboratory, to give skills for solving real analysis typical of a chemical laboratory, together with some information about the common equipment present in a chemical laboratory and how to work in safe conditions.
Examination methods
The exam will consists of a written test, including exercises and questions on the entire course program. The exam will be aimed at ascertaining the student's knowledge of the contents of the course. Particular attention will be given to the understanding of the concepts of general and inorganic chemistry, of the methods and tools used in the laboratory experiences.
For both attending and non-attending students the exam will focus on all the topics discussed during the theoretical part as well as on the part concerning laboratory experiences
For the part concerning laboratory experiences, written reports will be required concerning the methods and results obtained during the experiences. Laboratory reports will be evaluated to the purpose of formulating the final grade.

Didactic methods
The course will be delivered in person, without using the streaming mode and recordings. It is the faculty of the teacher to use supplementary didactic material (eg old recorded lessons) for students who demonstrate a justified need.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam will consist of a written test including the resolution of 4 exercises involving calculations and 18 theory questions on the entire teaching program. The 4 exercises will focus on the following topics: stoichiometry/weight relationships; redox reactions; acid-base balance; buffer; hydrolysis of salts; precipitation equilibria (Kps); heterogeneous/homogeneous systems, elementary analyses; -brute/minimal molecular formula; reaction yield; preparation of solutions. The student will have to select the only correct answer among the 5 possible ones. 4 laboratory reports will be evaluated in order to formulate the final mark. A periodic table will be provided; students must bring a scientific calculator with them.
Evaluation criteria
The exam will be aimed at ascertaining the student's knowledge of the contents of the teaching and of the course of exercises held by Prof.ssa Nardon. Particular attention will be paid to mastering the concepts of general and inorganic chemistry, their application in solving practical problems and understanding the methods and tools used in laboratory experiences. For the part concerning the laboratory experiences, 4 written reports regarding the methods and results obtained during these experiences will be required.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
18 theory questions (1 point for each correct exercise; -0.2 points for each wrong exercise; 0 points for each exercise not answered or canceled by the student). 4 exercises (3 points for each correct exercise; -0.6 points for each wrong exercise; 0 points for each exercise not answered or canceled by the student). The 4 written reports concerning the laboratory experiences (from -2 to +2 points). The total grade is expressed in 30ths. Honors are obtained with a total score greater than 30.

Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs
This initiative contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030. More information on sustainabilityType D and Type F activities
3. Competenze trasversali
Solo in seguito all'ottenimento dell'Open Badge verranno automaticamente convalidati i CFU a libretto.
