Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide the students with the adequate knowledge related medical emergencies. Particular attention is paid to the clinical-diagnostic pathway of specific pathologies, so as to provide the students with the information which are required to differentiate them and start an appropriate and rapid diagnostic procedure.
Single treatments are individualized within their specific context (territory, home, ambulante, E.R., floor, I.C.U, etc). Furthermore, all treatments are proposed on the basis of available Evidence Based Medicine.
Course Objectives include also principal anesthesiological techniques, intensive care medicine cornerstones, acute and chronic pain pathophysiology.
Program
Emergencies of interest for dentistry: cardiac arrest, states of altere consciousness, allergica reactions and anaphylaxis
Oxygen transport
Acute respiratorii failure, polmonare oedema, acute miocardial infarction
Pain and pharmacological therapy
Oro-facial pain
Headaches
Principal techniques of sedation
History of Anesthesia
Local anesthetic drugs and loco-regional anesthesia
General anesthesia
Airways control, different techniques of ventilation, endotracheal intubation
Examination Methods
Oral and unique. The student will be asked questions about the following 3 topics from a 3-lecturer commission:
- one of anesthesia, resuscitation, and pain therapy
- one of dermatology
- one of general surgery
