SETTING Experiences in geriatric and/or musculoskeletal areas. AREAS OF COMPETENCE At the end of the Internship activities the Student acquires competences in the following areas: In the area of Professional Responsibility, the Student demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge and comprehension, because he/she acts according to the principles of ethics and professional deontology. The Student demonstrates attention and respect for ideas, opinions and different cultures with no judgments. The Student respects the privacy of personal data processing of the patient. The Student proves the independence of judgment acting within the limits of his/her own competence and experience and shows a collaborating and proactive attitude by recognising the limits of the Student’s Role. The Student works to deadlines, respect the tasks, and he/she informs of his/her own absence. In the area of Training/Self-Training, the Student shows learning abilities, since he/she searches for learning opportunities which are consistent with the objectives of the Internship. The Student asks for a feedback and, in relation to the feedback received, he/she is able to modify his/her own professional behavior and/or decision making. In the area of Practice based on Efficacy Trials, the Student does not have prerequisites to develop this competence. In the area of Communication and Relationship, the Student has communication skills because he shows social and cooperative skills with the Internship Guide and the other professional figures with respect for the roles. The Student communicates professionally with the patient or the caregiver taking an empathetic attitude and using an active listening. The Student is able to facilitate the involvement of the patient in the care activities and during the rehabilitation, providing all the necessary information in a clear and exhaustive way and verifying the comprehension. The Student documents the rehabilitative process by filling out the required written tasks. In the area of Treatment and Rehabilitation, the Student is able to apply knowledge and comprehension since he collects physiotherapeutic data relating to the patient by consulting the available documentation and listening the interview of the Internship Guide with the patient or the caregiver. The Student carries out the assessment of the patient using observation to describe the postural behaviour and the activities limitations (walking, grasping, manipulation and other functional gestures) and other instruments such as palpation, ROM and muscle test, muscular length test and pain evaluation. The Student accomplishes the physiotherapeutic intervention: he/she prepares the setting (examination table, materials and assistive devices) respecting the privacy and hygienic rules, he/she places the patient while safeguarding his/her well-being (articular physiology and respect of the pain of the patient) and safety. The Student does the postural alignment, postural changes and transfer of the patient in the different positions. The Student uses correct grip techniques during the articular mobilization respecting the ergonomic principles and safety. The Student owns independence of judgment during the analyzation ed elaboration of the collected data, identifying and classifying (according to the ICF model) the structural and functional impairments, limitations of activities, restrictions of participation, relevant environmental and personal factors. In the area of the Therapeutic Education, the Student owns communication skills since he provides information in a clear and exhaustive manner while guiding verbally the patient during the movements to obtain his/her cooperation. The Student owns independence of judgement during the choice of the educational method suitable for the patient in order to train her/him for using assistive devices and technologies for the independence and disability. In the area of Prevention, the Student has the ability to apply knowledge and comprehension since he/she shows attention to the conditions of the patient by identifying signals of alteration (when they are present) of neurovegetative functions. The Student is able to detect significant vital parameters if necessary.
