The course leads the student to know the main determinants of health and disease, the preventive strategies both individual and collective, and of interventions to promote the health and safety of their users. Particularly, it aims to understand the causes, the pathogenic mechanisms, and the methods of prevention and control of infectious diseases.

MM: MICROBIOLOGIA CLINICA
------------------------
The aim of this course is providing the students with knowledge of general and clinical microbiology. First, the general characteristics of various microorganisms will be treated; also the mechanisms involved in their pathogenesis will be examined. Other subjects of this course will be: some examples of specific diseases caused by various microorganism and some indications about the diagnosis of these deseases.

To acquire basic knowledge and understanding on health and safety prevention and health promotion and management in workplaces. To acquire, through field examples, knowledge and understanding about general principles of occupational health, risk assessment, health surveillance, fitness for work, health education, legislation, with reference to different risk factors (e.g., chemicals, physical agents, biohazards, ergonomics, organization and psychosocial factors, injuries). Attention will be dedicated to let the student acquire knowledge and understanding about the roles of the different professionals and institutions committed to prevention as well as the awareness that in their professional activity there might be the opportunity to apply health education to the persons they have in charge also regarding health and safety issues in workplaces.
