Learning outcomes
Part I. Expected results: At the end of the course the students will be able to: - Analyze the phrasal structures of the German language in the framework of generative grammar - To make sense of theoretical explanation in order to i) distinguish between grammatical norm and description of "linguistic competence" and ii) open a new perspective of com-parative analysis, in particular between German and the student's native language. Part II. Expected results: - Applying the linguistic analysis skills acquired during the course to dialectal variation with particular reference to Cimbrian, a Germanic minority language spoken in the Trentino Region; - Evaluating the importance of theoretical anal-ysis for the development of a grammatical norm.
