Core aspects of the German syntax: the phenomenon known as 'Verb Second', movement in interrogative clauses, embedded and root phenomena
Program
The aim of this course is to provide students with a formal description of well-known topics in German grammar: several aspects of grammar will be taken into account so as to arrive at a definition of both main clause (Verb Second phenomena/wh-movement) and embedded clause phenomena. In particular, concepts such as constituents/categories and phrase structure in the generative framework will be dealt with. The so-called 'Minimalist model' will be just touched upon.
