Learning outcomes

The course is intended to provide students with both the theoretical and practical knowledge of the basic methods used in ethnographic fieldwork. Being organized as a laboratory, the course will take advantage of several teaching methods (lectures, projections and analysis of videos and still pictures, simulations, class readings, etc.) and will guide the students to a critical understanding of the complexity of fieldwork through a participatory formula.
For such a reason, even though it is not mandatory in order to take the final exam, attending classes is strongly recommended.

Examination Methods

The critical understanding of the topics discussed in the course will be assessed through an oral exam. Those who have attended at least four out of six classes are requested to produce a short report (6/8 sheets) and present it orally (topics of the report to be agreed upon at the end of the course). The oral exam for those who have not attended the classes consists of an interview on the course readings.

The final exam aims at verifying: the depth of knowledge gained; the critical and rhetorical skills of the student; his/her ability in connecting topics, using the appropriate vocabulary.

NOTE: Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and in accordance with the University of Verona guidelines, during the 2020 summer session the assessment modality will be modified as follows: online oral exam.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
