Learning objectives

The ethics module intends to provide an introduction to how ethics is expressed in the engineering field, specifically in the field of engineering applied to medicine and in the field of human-machine interactions. The more general objective is to sensitize the future designer to a responsible use of their technical skills at every stage of the life of the engineering device (design, development and application). At the end of the course the student will have acquired the following knowledge and skills / competences:
- a general knowledge of the key concepts of ethics and the main ethical models present in current discussions
- a basic knowledge of roboetics, machine ethics and artificial intelligence, as well as bioethics, and a capacity for ethical-moral interpretation of the concrete cases that may arise in technical practice
- will be able to understand the ethical consequences of the action of the biomedical technological device, interacting in its constituent with the human body, placing respect for the patient's dignity at the center.
- will be able to orient himself in a critical sense in the ethical problems of the man-machine relationship, in its various philosophical and practical dimensions.
The psychology module intends to introduce students to the basic concepts of clinical psychology and the application of the principles of a person-centered approach in the biomedical field. The following topics will be addressed: Introduction to clinical psychology in health care; Patient-centered and biopsychosocial approach: role of psychosocial factors in adapting to disease and experiences of illness; Psychosocial Needs, Illness and Technology; Psychosocial factors that influence adherence to technological treatments in the medical field; Communication through the use of technology and intelligent systems; Knowledge of the main psychology investigation methodologies, in order to design personalized therapeutic-rehabilitative interventions that also take into account the psycho-social aspects of the end user.
