Learning objectives
To deepen knowledge of both historical-theoretical and practical character in the field of museography, analysing architectures and installations that have had, or still have, a significant role in the development of the language and practices of museums in Italy and abroad.
Prerequisites and basic notions
No prior requirements are necessary, but students are encouraged to attend the course after acquiring fundamental notions in the History of Art and Architecture.
Program
The course aims to answer the following question: how do architects design museums? And again: how do curators conceive exhibitions? Classes will reconstruct the evolution of the exhibition space through history, from the first European public collections to the latest museological challenges, by placing these events in a historical perspective and contextualizing them with respect to their respective cultural contexts. Particularly, they will focus on the Italian tradition and its avant-garde role, between the eighteenth and twentieth century, for international museography.

Didactic methods
Lectures will alternate with site visits of the most significant examples of museography in Verona and, occasionally, in other locations in the Veneto area, as well as with seminars on discussing the assigned literature, recently published reviews and ongoing exhibitions.
Learning assessment procedures
The final exam will be oral.
Evaluation criteria
The exam will verify the knowledge of the topics covered by the lectures, the assigned bibliography, and the case studies explored during site visits. Students will demonstrate mastery of the course contents, i.e., to be able to interpret analytically different museographic strategies and to identify their historical and critical reasons.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The oral exam and any written assignments will contribute to the evaluation, expressed out of thirty, according to the methods described at the beginning of the course.
