Learning objectives
The course is composed of two parts: an introductory one and one more focused on the theme of Venetian Renaissance drawing. Overall, the course aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge and tools for the analysis of the techniques and functions of drawing between the 15th and 18th centuries. The student should be able to analyze a drawing, identifying its correct historical, cultural and geographical context, and identifying the various historical techniques used by the artist in the main centers of production . In addition, the student will have acquired knowledge of the major drawing collections and drawing cabinets of the Western world.

First part of the course: 1. The student is introduced to the recognition and analysis of materials (supports) and techniques, tools and forms, with particular regard to functions and typologies. 2. Examples for the acquisition of reading methods: examples of preparatory drawings, first ideas, sketches, functional drawings, contract drawings, decorative drawings, independent drawings are analysed. 3. The study of drawings used in the art and science of engraving is addressed, with particular regard to the transfer method and techniques of xylography, direct and indirect chalcography, lithography and serigraphy. 4. Outlines of the history of design. 5. European drawing and collecting. 6.The great connoisseurs and examples of classification and cataloguing, with particular regard to the basic repertoires. 7. Illustration of the types of cataloging cards.

for the first part of the course: written test
Evaluation criteria
Evaluation criteria for the first part of the course: The student's ability to formulate an autonomous discourse on stylistic authors, problems and themes based on the questions submitted in the written test will be evaluated. The ability to autonomously express connections and comparisons between personalities and works to which they belong will be especially evaluated. The final grade is expressed out of thirty/thirty.
