TAF (Type of Educational Activity) All courses and activities are classified into different types of educational activities, indicated by a letter.
Type D and Type F activities

Learning objectives
The Laboratory aims to develop critical-hermeneutical skills suitable for understanding the texts and the topics covered and their problematic implications; to develop conceptual clarity and terminological precision, as necessary tools to express one's own critical-speculative ability and develop independence of thought; to develop skills in communicating philosophical topics to specialists and non-specialists.
The Laboratory develops historical-philosophical and epistemological knowledge starting from authors and themes of modern and contemporary philosophy. The topics covered during the frontal lessons develop, in particular, the ability to understand specific concepts starting from the deepening of fundamental texts of the philosophical tradition. The laboratory then allow students to apply the knowledge learned, developing the communication of their own ideas, criticisms and observations, thus developing a real philosophical debate, based on the awareness of the issues dealt with, together with the understanding of the texts.
Prerequisites and basic notions
There are no requisites. Basic knowledge of the history of philosophy is enough.
Program
The meetings of the "Laboratory of Gnoseology and Metaphysics" will involve all the members of the "Research of Gnoseology and Metaphysics" Center who, in turn, as speakers and discussants, will propose interventions relating to topics of common interest and related to the of the Centre, faced with a multi-perspective approach (theoretical, historical-philosophical, epistemological and ethical).
Didactic methods
The meetings of the "first part" of the Laboratory (three academic hours each), will take place in presence (room D of the Palazzo ex Economia) on Mondays, from 15.45 to 18.10. Since the Workshop will also take place via Zoom streaming, we will take care to communicate the connection link to interested students and other participants a few days before the start of the workshop cycle: this link will be provided upon request by individual participants, by contacting the Laboratory contact person (Prof. Davide Poggi: davide.poggi@univr.it) or the research center help desk (Dr. Giulia Battistoni: giulia.battistoni@univr.it).
The meetings of the "second part" of the Laboratory (two academic hours each), will be organized as follows: every single lectio (one academic hour) will be followed by a laboratory moment (one academic hour) dedicated to the questions/observations/comments of the listeners.
Learning assessment procedures
There are two conditions for accreditation of credits (both to be fulfilled and not alternatively):
• the minimum attendance, by students, of 20 hours out of the total 24 hours of the laboratory offer, which can be variously distributed according to the needs of the participants;
• the production of a written work (min 12,500, max 15,000 characters including spaces, i.e. between 5 and 6 word pages; font: Times New Roman; font size: 12pt for the body of the text, 10pt for the footnotes page; line spacing: 1.5; alignment: justified) on a theme chosen from those addressed during the meetings.
This work will then be sent to the Laboratory Director (Prof. Davide Poggi) and, on the basis of the topic covered, to the corresponding supervisor, who, after careful examination, will judge it "suitable/unsuitable". In the event that the paper concerns the intervention of an external speaker, the essay will be examined and evaluated by the internal member of the Center closest to the scientific-disciplinary sector and competent with respect to the topics covered.
Once the final evaluation of the paper has been formulated, this must be communicated by the Director to the Laboratory Representative, who will record the outcome.
Evaluation criteria
To verify the skills acquired, the Laboratory includes a final test which consists in the production of a paper on a topic chosen from those addressed. In this thesis, the candidate will have to demonstrate critical-argumentative skills and the application of analytical and hermeneutical skills as well as an independent investigation.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The vote will be expressed in terms of "suitable/not suitable".
