Learning outcomes
Fornire un quadro generale dei temi della disciplina.
Consentire un approccio critico verso le fonti materiali d'età medievale e il loro processo interpretativo, privilegiando il confronto interdisciplinare.
Fornire un quadro economico e sociale dell'alto medioevo attraverso gli scambi e i commerci tra il mondo mediterraneo e quello nord-europeo.
Si vorranno sottolineare le trasformazioni economico-sociali, osservando la circolazione delle merci e delle persone, i percorsi e i sistemi produttivi.
Program
The advanced course will be structured in three parts:
1) general picture of the economic system: from Pirenne to McCormick. Scientific Ideas and positions on Trade in Early Middle Ages. Local economic systems: productions between luxury goods, food and landscapes.
2) Examples and Case Studies: The Status of Research.
3) recognize products and materials: study and recognition of archaeological finds of medieval times.

Examination Methods
The exam will be conducted with an interview aimed at assessing the general knowledge of the discipline, scientific terminology and the ability to critically analyze the data.
