Learning outcomes

The course will aim to provide students with theoretical sociological tools useful for reflecting on the logic underway in the current complex relationship between professionalization and medical institution. The topic of autonomy, the segmentation of the different professional identities and their contribution to the hospital institution will be discussed. The main objective will be to stimulate reflection on the comparison between the medical career and that of other health professionals (nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, ect ...)

The teacher will provide the students with the lecture notes to be used in the course, drawn from chapters extracted from the Sociology of Health manuals and other academic essays

Examination Methods

The exam consists of an individual written report on the topics covered during the course.
The evaluation of the report will take place in thirtieths and will take particular account of four levels of performance:
● articulation of logical-argumentative skills, ie the relevance to the track given by the teacher (35%);
● ability to correctly make a connection between theories and empirical reality (35%)
● personal re-elaboration of the contents covered in class (30%)
