Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical and practical bases of the Information and Communication Technology, along with the basic knowledge of the main data management applications.
Program
Definition of ICT and fundamental concepts.
Computer hardware (outline): Von Neumann architecture, CPU, RAM and ROM memory, mass storage devices, units of measure of memory, I/O peripheral devices.
Software: the binary code, BIOS, operating system and File System (outline), programming languages (outline) and applications.
Computer networks: types of networks (LAN, MAN, WAN, Peer-to-peer, Client-Server), protocols, the Internet, the World Wide Web, network security (outline).
The main applications for data management (outline): Word processors WYSIWYG (MS Word) e Latex, electronic spreadsheet (Excel), Database Management Systems (MS Access).
Malware and antiviruses.
Examination Methods
Written, multiple-choice test, aimed to verify the knowledge of the course topics.
