Learning outcomes

Recognize signs and symptoms of neurological diseases and identify the structures of the nervous system involved.
To know the pathophysiology, the clinical symptoms and signs of the main pathologies of the central and peripheral nervous system.
Long-term complications.
To know the main mechanisms of recovery after injury to the nervous system.

Program

Introduction to clinical neurology. Anatomo-clinical correlation. Central and peripheral nervous system lesions.
Cerebrovascular diseases: pathophysiology, clinical correlation, imaging and rehabilitation.
Neurodegenerative diseases: molecular aspects and pathophysiology. Alterations of cognitive functions: aphasia; apraxia; agnosia; memory. Evaluation of cognitive functions. Dementias.
Parkinson's disease and parkinsonism. Long-term complication of Parkinson's disease.
Cognitive and motor rehabilitative intervention in neurodegenerative diseases.
Motor neuron diseases
Demyelinating diseases. Physiopathology, clinical forms. Rehabilitation in multiple sclerosis.
Infectious diseases: encephalitis and meningitis.
Epilepsy. pathophysiology of epilepsy. Types of epileptic seizures, etiology and classification.
Radiculopathies, plessopathies and mononeuropathies. Toxic and metabolic polyneuropathies
Acute and chronic poliradicoloneurites (Guillain-Barré syndrome and CIDP)
Myopathies. Muscular dystrophy of Duchenne and Becker. Inflammatory myopathies.
