Learning outcomes
The course aims to introduce students to the key introductory concepts of sociology, which can be applied to an understanding of the organizational and work processes within the health field.
By the end of the course, students will be able to identify and describe the organizational processes according to the context in which the organisation is located, recognise the processes in the workplace and promote positive relationships within the organization as well as within external ones. Finally, the students will be able to consider their professional role with respect to their relationships with patients within the organization.
Program
In order to achieve the objectives, the course will provide an in depth study of the following topics:
• Economic sociology and sociology of organizations
• Work and organizations: from the contribution of classic researchers to current perspectives
• Organizational processes and dynamics
• The cultural features of organizations
• Organizational change
• Health organizations and multi-ethnicity
• Physiotherapist activity and relationships with the patient: approaches and relationships
• Problems in the healthcare world: violence and sexual harassment
The format of instruction is: lectures, working in groups, multimedia and the Internet. Students are expected to attend classes, prepare class readings and actively participate in class discussions. Student tasks also include undertaking an empirical study and presenting it.
