Learning outcomes

The biology of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa) and basic concepts of their role as agents of infectious diseases. Classification and mode of action of the main classes of antibiotics and antimicrobial drugs. The oral microbiota. Knowledge of the role of microorganisms in major infectious diseases of the oral cavity: dental caries and periodontal disease


Classification of microorganisms in the world of the living.
Structure of the bacterial cell: the difference between gram positive and gram negative bacteria
Virus: architecture and classification.
Mechanisms of virus replication
Fungi and protozoa: classification and structure
Mechanisms of bacteria pathogenicity: exotoxins and endotoxin bacterial
Mechanisms of pathogenic viruses. Frameworks infections localized, generalized, silent, persistent, latent and slow infections
Definitions and classification of antibiotics.
Mechanisms of action of the main antibacterial drugs.
