Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide a basic understanding of Developmental Psychology by providing an overview of the human development from birth to old age.
It will even analyze in depth some typical aspects of Clinical Psychology, essential to develop appropriate communicational and relational knowledge needed in the relationship between the patient and the future Dental Hygienist.
Program
The aim of the course is to study the development of psychological cognitive, emotional and social functions in the different stages of life. Below the main topics.
The importance of teaching Evolutional Age Psychology and Clinical Psychology in the Degree Course (CdL) for Dental Hygiene.
Developmental Psychology and the main theoretical prospectives of Psychological Development.
Social and emotional development.
Psychological development in the various stages of life: infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age.
The psychological function of the mouth and teeth.
Communication with the patience (verbal, para-verbal and non-verbal).
The promotion of oral health: how to motivate the patient to change his oral hygiene habits.
Clinical psychology.
Odontophobia, pain and anxiety: how to help the patient deal with them.
