Learning outcomes

The course introduces the student to the aspects of prevention, diagnosis and therapy of the main odontostomatological pathologies of children and adolescents.

Program

1. First visit in pediatric dentistry: medical history; intraoral, extraoral and functional clinical examination.
2. Chronology of dental eruption: deciduous dentition, mixed and permanent dentition; shape and size characteristics of deciduous teeth; sequence, chronology and anomalies of the deciduous teeth eruption; sequence, chronology and anomalies of the eruption of permanent teeth.
3. Communication and approach in the pediatric age: definitions; fear and dental anxiety; dentist-child relationship; first meeting; behavioral management techniques.
4. Prevention in pediatric dentistry: concept of oral health and prevention; caries in developmental age patient; feeding and prophylaxis; Early Childhood Caries (ECC); erosions in pediatric patient; periodontal disease in pediatric patient; odontostomatological prevention tools; home oral hygiene; fissure sealing.
5. Dento-alveolar traumatology in pediatric dentistry: epidemiology and etiology; characteristic factors of dento-alveolar traumas; classification of traumatic injuries; prevention; outline of treatment.
