Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

MED/46 - BIOTECHNOLOGY AND METHODS IN LABORATORY MEDICINE

Learning objectives
At the end of the internship period carried out at the thesis location, the student must acquire: • adequate preparation in the basic disciplines, such as to allow a better understanding of the most relevant elements that underlie the pathological processes that develop in the developmental, adult and geriatric age on which the diagnostic intervention is focused; • theoretical and practical knowledge of each of the professional sectors, with particular regard to innovative methodologies; • ability to critically assess the reliability of test results and analyzes; • ability to take responsibility for their actions according to the objectives and priorities of the work activity, the correct fulfillment of the analytical procedures, in verifying the correspondence of the services provided to the indicators and standards set by the person in charge of the structure; • ability to perform a bibliographic and updating research through the use of updated databases, making critical reading of technical and scientific articles; • a good level of knowledge of a European Union language, besides Italian, in order to allow the understanding of international literature; • competence useful for the management of laboratory information systems; • ability to identify, prevent and deal with critical events related to risks of various kinds and types associated with the activity in the different areas of the laboratory, applying workplace safety standards, • respect for ethical and deontological principles in relations with users or other health professionals, establishing effective and collaborative relationships in the awareness of the specific characteristics of the different professional roles; • ability to work in groups and to operate with defined degrees of autonomy; • indispensable knowledge for the implementation and monitoring of Total Quality through the use of correct methodologies; • ability to transmit and manage information in the workplace, proving to be able to fill out the dedicated forms, communicating verbally and written in a clear, concise and professional way, technically and grammatically accurate, in order also to convey ideas, pose problems and find the related solutions; • produce, collect and process the data necessary for the preparation of the final thesis, organizing and planning the indispensable work for the same

Evaluation criteria
Assessment of the skills and competences achieved by the student at the end of the internship.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade consists of: 1. An evaluation of the training period carried out and of the elaborate produced, by the reference guide of the structure where the student carries out the internship, with a maximum score of 10 points. 2. A written test consisting of 40 multiple choice and open questions on specific topics of the programme. The maximum score is 8 points (0.2 points per question). 3. An oral test aimed at ascertaining the knowledge of the topics in the program and the student's ability to apply analytical and argumentative skills, maximum score of 12 points. 4. The final mark is expressed out of thirty and the year is passed if the score is 18/30.
