Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

- Introduction to epidemiology
- The objects of epidemiological research (outcome, outcome parameter, determinant)
- Measures of disease frequency (incidence rate, cumulative incidence, prevalence)
- Measures of association (attributable risk, relative risk, odds ratio)
- The main observational (cross-sectional, case-control, and cohort) and experimental (parallel-group, crossover) study designs
- The causal interpretation of an empirical association (models of causality, random error, bias, confounding)
- Effect modification
- Prevention, screening and diagnostic tests (indicators of validity and agreement between measurement methods)
- Bayes' theorem
- Theoretical probability distributions (binomial and normal)
- Sampling
- Statistical inference (test of significance and confidence interval)
- Regression analysis and correlation
Bibliography
Didactic methods
The teaching is structured in frontal theoretical lessons (20 h) on epidemiological methodology in clinical and experimental settings and on inferential biostatistics. The course also includes individual and group exercises. Attendance of the course is compulsory. The teaching material is made available to students on the e-learning web page of the course (Moodle platform). Students in isolation and/or quarantine for COVID-19 will be allowed access to lectures via ZOOM (in synchronous mode), after sending the lecturer by e-mail the form to self-certify their positivity.
Learning assessment procedures
The objective of the test is to verify the knowledge of the topics covered and the ability to interpret results of clinical and experimental research in settings that are similar to those exemplified in class. The final exam consists of a written test with multiple choice questions. At the end of the test, students will evaluate the outcome with the teacher and will have the opportunity to take a short oral supplement to the exam. The duration of the written test is 70 minutes.
Evaluation criteria
Each question is assigned a predefined score. The final evaluation is expressed in 30ths.

Anche se il regolamento non prevede un obbligo specifico, verifica le indicazioni previste dal singolo docente per ciascun insegnamento o per eventuali laboratori e/o tirocinio.
