Learning outcomes

Clinical Biochemistry Analysis: Technological evolution from manual tests to automatic integrated systems. During the course the main methodological principles of the automated instruments in use in the clinical biochemistry laboratories will be described, with attention to the evaluation of the process indicators for a correct management of the analytical objectives.

Program

Clinical Biochemistry analysis: Technological evolution from manual tests to automatic integrated systems.
Hematology analyzers: description of the automated cell counting analyzers: electrical impedance and optical technology. Description of cytometers and flow cytometry: principles cytometry, parameters and performance, reading principles and cytograms.
Analysis of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR): from Westergren method to automatic systems for the determination of the ESR.
Clinical Chemistry Analysis: technological evolution of automated systems for the determination of several clinical chemistry tests: description of colorimetric, enzymatic and direct potentiometric measurements.
Immunochemistry analysis: technological evolution of automated systems. Description of Immunochemiluminescent Assay . Brief description of some application on cardiac, endocrinology and oncology assay.
nephelometry and turbidimetry instrumentation: methodological principles, automated application. Description of some examples: Determination of serum proteins.
Automated coagulation analyzer: application of methodological principles for the determination of prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). Fibrinogen, D-dimer.
