Learning outcomes
To give to the student the cognitive and methodological tools needed to carry out the role of
B Biomedical Laboratory Technician in the management and reading of Pap Test and evaluation of the
T quality of screening of Cervical Cancer.
Program
Origin and study of Colpocytology. Basics of cervico-vaginal anatomy and histology. Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Basics of colposcopy. Preparation of a Pap Test sample: traditional and thin prep method. Characteristics of Papanicolaou’s staining: problems and artifacts. Cervico-vaginal cytology reporting: from the Papanicolaou’s Classification to the Bethesda System. State of adequacy / inadequacy of a cervicovaginal sample. Negative cervicovaginal specimen for intraepithelial or malignant lesions with or without the presence of organisms or non-neoplastic.
