Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to:
– describe Russian grammatical phenomena at the interface between morphosyntax and pragmatics
– identify the most problematic sociolinguistic aspects related to the status of the Russian language in the post-Soviet countries
– reflect critically on the construction of a syllabus for teaching pragmatic competences in Russian as a Foreign Language
– reflect critically and be able to conduct research on sociolinguistic issues related to the Russian language
Program
The course unfolds in two sections:
1. Pragmatics: Politeness Theory, interaction between aspect and politeness, the pragmatics of requests, interlanguage pragmatics, teaching pragmatics.
2. Sociolinguistics: language planning and language policy, research methodology, the status of the Russian language in the post-Soviet countries

Examination Methods
Oral exam.
Students must prove to know and originally discuss the linguistic issues presented throughout the course; particular attention in the final evaluation is given to the critical ability in reasoning on the topics studied.
The final mark is expressed in thirties. It is the weighted average of the marks obtained in the two modules of the course.
