Learning outcomes
Reading and analysing meaningful examples of different typologies of short stories (realistic, fantasy, thriller, etc ...), students will be able to recognise the main characteristics of the genre and detect analogies and differences among the different kinds of short stories. Thanks to practical exercises, students will also acquire specific writing abilities: at the end of the course, they will be able to write short stories, providing evidences of originality, creativity, and a good command of the genre's main rules.

Writing a short story.
CONTENTS
1. Analysis of different types of short story (realistic, fantasy, thriller, etc...).
2. Identification of each type of short story's main characteristics, in particular in terms of the language employed.
TEACHING METHODS.
Taught classes.
Guided readings and analyses of meaningful examples of short stories will be paired with written exercises. The texts will be available on the e-learning platform.
Students are warmly invited to read the "Lezioni americane" by Italo Calvino, which will be quoted during the course.
NB: THE COURSE IS DEVOTED ONLY TO ATTENDING STUDENTS. In order to take the final exam, students must attend AT LEAST SEVEN LECTURES out of nine. SIGNATURES WILL BE COLLECTED.

Examination Methods
ONLY ATTENDING STUDENTS can take the final exam, which will be a written essay.
Students will be asked to write a short story choosing to develop one of three given topics.
