Learning objectives
The course of Medicine and Nutrition aims to provide the knowledge for the evaluation of the nutritional status, body composition, metabolism and energy balance, energy needs and individual nutrients, as well as the learning of the neuro-hormonal mechanisms that affect eating behavior and body weight.
The student will also acquire knowledge on the influence of food on the state of health and well-being of man, on the principles of proper nutrition, on the prevention of diseases, in particular chronic-degenerative diseases, on the role of nutrition in regulating the immune response and intestinal microbiota, as well as on the nutritional aspects of populations in particular physiological conditions such as aging.
Examination methods
Multiple choice written test to verify the overall degree of knowledge of the subject of this course.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Pathophysiology of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, digestive, hematopoietic, endocrinological and osteoskeletal systems
Program
Main cardiovascular and pulmonary, renal, intestinal, hepatic, hematological, endocrinological, and osteoarticular diseases of interest for the internal medicine setting

Evaluation criteria
The student will have to demonstrate knowledge of the main internal medicine pathologies, the pathophysiological basis of these diseases and their prevalence in the general population with particular attention to the role of lifestyle, diet and nutraceuticals. The knowledge of the main clinical consequences of the most important nutritional deficiencies will be evaluated.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
Based on the outcome of the written exam.
