Learning objectives
The aim is to deepen the examination of the tourism phenomenon through the study of territorial analysis models.
The themes of Sustainable Development in a tourism perspective are analyzed with specific reference to an operational approach integrated into the European System of indicators in the tourism sector.
The references to significant international cases point to an approach in terms of benchmark analysis.
At the end of the course the student must have acquired the skills to:
- understand and analyze the geographical - tourist characteristics of the different territorial contexts;
- outline possible operational scenarios.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Knowledge of the basics of economic geography and tourism geography. Ability to process data and information.
Program
The course aims to study technical and operational aspects of the tourism phenomenon in its geographical implications. Geographical models of tourism planning will be discussed; issues regarding the evolutionary dynamics and problems related to the phenomenon will be addressed, with particular reference to the theme of overtourism. Tools and methodologies to support territorial-tourism planning activities will be analyzed. Particular emphasis will be given to the tourism-culture relationship and to the historical-cultural and landscape-environmental values. National and international indicators will be analyzed and applied. The course will be completed with in-depth analyses of case studies.

Didactic methods
Frontal lessons with the use of synthetic support material (slides). Presentation of case studies. The teaching material presented during the lessons will be made available on the e-learning platform in conjunction with the development of the topics covered.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam includes a written test, consisting of questions related to the topics included in the program. Each answer is associated with a score expressed in 30ths. For those attending the questions will focus on the manual, on the in-depth analysis of individual topics and on the case studies covered in class and made available through the e-learning platform. For those not attending the questions will focus on the manual and on the in-depth text suggested in the program and on the material made available through the e-learning platform. For both, the written test is aimed at ascertaining knowledge of the topics in the program. In addition to the course content, clarity of exposition, mastery of geographical vocabulary and correct spelling and syntax will also be assessed.
