Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning objectives
At the end of the course, the student will need to demonstrate to have acquired the main interdisciplinary foundations of Romance Philology (historical linguistics, textual criticism and medieval Romance literature).
Prerequisites and basic notions
No specific prerequisite is required.
Program
The course is structured into three modules:
1. Fundamentals of Romance Linguistics. Following a definition of the scope of the subject, the first part of the course will address the issue of the origins of Romance languages. The complex notion of Vulgar Latin will be introduced, and then the main phonetic, morphological, and syntactic features signalling the evolution from Latin to Vulgar languages will be illustrated. This will be done by reading and commenting on early texts, preferring a comparative approach. Subsequently, elements of the historical grammar of Romance languages will be provided through text reading, along with the initial tools to undertake the linguistic analysis of medieval texts.
2. Introduction to Textual Criticism. The second part of the course will introduce the manuscript culture of Romance Middle-Ages and provide initial knowledge of textual criticism to address the study of a manuscript tradition and understand the aim of a critical edition.
3. The third part of the course aims to outline a profile of medieval Romance literatures, preferring the reading of selected passages and an approach focusing on linguistic domains and literary genres.

Didactic methods
Lectures - For attending students, the teaching methods consist of lectures dedicated to the thematic areas of the course. Active participation and involvement of students are encouraged in the classroom, thereby giving them the opportunity to check their acquired knowledge on an ongoing basis. The e-learning platform is used to ensure active communication between the lecturer and students, to provide additional supportive materials, and to highlight any opportunities for further exploration related to the subject (such as conferences, seminars, presentations, etc.). The lecturer will provide support to non-attending students, for them to be able to study the manual and agreed-upon reference texts. Any additional updates will be made available to students in a timely manner through the e-learning platform. Additionally, the lecturer is available throughout the academic year for individual meetings in the office hours indicated on the web pages and regularly updated.
Learning assessment procedures
For all attending and non-attending students, learning outcomes will be assessed through the production of a written assignment.
The questions of the written assignment will assess: (a) the knowledge of reference texts and topics covered during the course; (b) the ability to contextualize the texts read in class from a historical, literary, and cultural point of view; and (c) the ability to read, translate, and comment on the texts covered during the course.
The assignment will cover all topics of the syllabus. It requires knowledge of: the passages read in class (reading, translation, and commentary) and their historical as well as cultural context; and the fundamentals of linguistics, textual criticism, and literary history provided during the course and through the essays in the reference list. During the examination, both 1) the ability to discuss the historical and literary aspects of the period studied in the course as well as the 2) knowledge of the texts read in class (reading, translation, and commentary) will be assessed.
Evaluation criteria
The final score is provided by a grade out of thirty and will be awarded based on the understanding of the technical and institutional contents of the subject, as well as the effectiveness and relevance of the responses and the quality of the written expression. For Erasmus students, the contents and procedures of the examination will be explained in class.

- competenze linguistiche (diverse o ulteriori) rispetto a quelle obbligatorie
- tirocini o stage
- TALC (competenze trasversali).

Il numero di CFU D va calcolato complessivamente sull’intero triennio/biennio e non è legato all'annualità.
CFU F
I CFU F sono solitamente relativi ad abilità informatiche, competenze linguistiche, stage e tirocini e ulteriori attività formative accreditate in questa tipologia dal Collegio Didattico.
Nel corso di laurea in Lingue e Letterature Straniere sono previste le seguenti tipologie:
- 3 CFU per terza lingua (livello B1)
- 3 CFU per informatica.
Le competenze informatiche possono essere acquisite attraverso:
- il superamento della prova pratica presso le aule informatiche di Ateneo,
- la frequenza dei corsi attivati da scuole e centri accreditati dall’AICA (Associazione Italiana per l’Informatica e il Calcolo Automatico) o riconosciuti dalla Provincia e dalla Regione e superamento della relativa prova finale. Le domande per il riconoscimento delle competenze informatiche acquisite precedentemente vengono esaminate dalla Commissione per il riconoscimento delle Competenze Informatiche.
Lo studente ha comunque la possibilità di effettuare esperienze di stage e tirocini che però vengono riconosciuti all’interno dei crediti a scelta libera (CFU D).
