Learning outcomes

The course has the aim to introduce the main themes regarding the “reading crisis” and the reading education in contemporary society (particular focus will be placed on children and adolescents). The course also promotes media literacy by developing students' skills in analysis and critical thinking about literature and the mass media.
Reading and education: the problems about literacy in the contemporary multimedial society; the factors limiting reading habit; a new kind of reader; children and youngs as critic-reflexive readers; children needs and intrinsic motivation to read; the pleasure of reading (types an levels); reading aloud: a way for reading promotion; the difference between “reading education” and “reading promotion”.

Program

The “reading crisis” and the reading education in contemporary society (focusing on the contemporary Italian society). New kinds of illiteracy. The new book industry, the new reader and the new reading processes. Understanding and analysis of the different kind of texts. Understanding and analysis of mass media as a prerequisite to critical thinking in a democratic society.

The course will be share in two parts:
a) How to read and promote children’s reading
Educative purposes and aims. Motivations to reading and reading pleasure. Reading aloud: theoretical aspects and applications. Reading promotions: theoretical aspects; practical applications and extracurricular activities; contemporary problems and dynamics in Italy. The reader as critical recipients of the book.
b) How to read and understand books and mass media
How to read an assay. Emotional supremacy in the mass media. The unuseful informations. How to read and understand different kind of mass media. Audiovisual narrative media for children and adolescents: short analysis and some guidelines.

Texts for exam
Details and directions for studying will be given during the course of the semester and they also will be published on the web board at the end of the course. This program will be valid for one academic year 2013/2014, this is to say until February 2015.

The course program follows a teaching method which while including various didactic methods: frontal lessons, reading aloud performances, slide presentations, image, audio and video presentations, and so on.
The course will NOT be a mere summary of the contents of the books: for this reason is highly recommended to attend the lectures or at least part of them.
Details regarding integrative and external lessons will be given during the course.

Examination Methods

The exam consists of two-hours’ written text based on argumentative and reflexive open-questions. This program will be valid for one academic year 2013/2014, this is to say until February 2015.

Stage e Tirocini

Le ulteriori attività formative (crediti F) sono interamente coperte dall’attività di tirocinio “indiretto” (1 cfu) da svolgersi nel secondo anno e di tirocinio “diretto” (14 cfu) da svolgersi presso enti convenzionati per un numero complessivo di 15 cfu (375 ore). Chi è iscritta/o al curriculum servizi per l’infanzia è tenuta/o a svolgere il tirocinio presso nidi e servizi per la prima infanzia per almeno il 50% delle ore.
Il tirocinio professionalizzante (375 ore, pari a 15 cfu), è obbligatorio sia nella sua forma diretta che indiretta.
Il tirocinio indiretto, della durata di 25 ore a frequenza obbligatoria al 75%, si svolge in Università per 20 ore e in forma di lavoro individuale per 5 ore e consiste in un accompagnamento iniziale delle/degli studenti da parte dei tutor attraverso un percorso formativo dotandoli di conoscenze e strumenti adeguati a osservare, comprendere e rielaborare criticamente l’esperienza di tirocinio nei servizi educativi e ad affrontare il tirocinio negli enti con metodo e consapevolezza. Il percorso, da attuare in gruppi da 20-25 persone sotto la supervisione di un tutor, risponde alle esigenze costantemente espresse sia dalle/dagli studenti stessi sia dalle parti sociali che dai referenti degli enti convenzionati.
Il tirocinio diretto si propone di raggiungere i seguenti obiettivi:

  • fare esperienza diretta di attività professionali, che richiedono un livello di preparazione al lavoro educativo;
  • approfondire in particolare il rapporto tra preparazione teorica, acquisita mediante lo studio, ed esperienza pratica, tra mondo del sapere e della cultura e mondo del lavoro e delle professioni;

Al termine del tirocinio diretto lo studente deve presentare una relazione scritta, nella modalità concordata con il tutor accademico.
