Learning objectives
The lessons provide an outline of the main issues and tendencies of the historical reconstruction in the Greek and Latin culture. After the course the students should be able to: - have a general overview of the characteristics of Greek historiography; - understand and discuss reading on Greek historiography; - discuss main aspects of the course texts.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Basic knowledge of Greek History.
Some familiarity with elements of Greek Literature can be of help.
Program
The module will be monographic and will focus on the study of Greek religion. We will read the Histories of Herodotus (selected passages) in comparison with some epigraphic sources. We will also explore some approaches in the critical landscape.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
Lessons will be in person. Students are encouraged to attend as much as possible. In addition to frontal teaching, active participation in seminar-type discussions in small groups is expected.
The program for non-attending students will be available on Moodle.
Learning assessment procedures
Oral exam, usually in person.
Evaluation criteria
At the oral exam, students will be expected:
- to show appropriate knowledge of the main features of Greek religion;
- to be able to present and comment on the primary sources considered in class;
- to possess a critical understanding of secondary literature.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The mark will be expressed in thirtieths. 18 will be required to pass.
