Learning outcomes
____The course aims to introduce the students to the use of Biomedical databases accessible via the computer network. During the practical exercises the following computational tools for querying the major databases will be used: GeneBank, Genecards, SwissProt, CDD (Conserved Domain Database), and OMIM (Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man). The human genome sequences will be analyzed using alignment algorithms such as BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) and FASTA; research strategies based on the alignment programs will be applied to genomic sequence analysis; programs accessible by the server ExPASy (Expert Protein Analysis System) Bioinformatic resource portal will be used for protein analysis._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
