Learning outcomes

The module will attempt to achieve a solid understanding on behalf of the students of the field of Neurophysiology, based on the assumtion that a solid background in Neurophysiology will be highly valuable to the students. This objective will be pursued while avoiding eccessive detail, but at the same time encouraging the student to understand the fundamental levels of analysis of the various themes.

Program

The program of the module will comprise topics pertaining to the field of cellular physiology and general neurophysiology, with a special focus on the mechanisms of transmembrane transport, intracellular signaling, electrical phenomena in excitable cells, like the nervous cells, and also including synaptic transmission and the major neurotransmitter systems. Moreover, the program will ancompass an in-depth analysis of the physiological mechanisms of the auditory system as well as the physiological mechanisms underlying the control of motor actions.

Examination Methods

The examination of each student will consist of an oral interview lasting a variable amount of time, in order to achieve a reliable assessment of the level of understanding on behalf of the students. During the examination, between a minimum of two and a maximum of four questions will be asked, depending on the specific case.
