Physical and audiological sciences (2016/2017)
The teaching is organized as follows:
Learning outcomes
------------------------
MM: FISICA ACUSTICA
------------------------
The module aim is to introduce some characteristic physical concepts of the acoustics . It focuses, therefore, on the definition and properties of sounds, both in the time domain, both in the frequency domain and their transmission in free field and indoors. It also deepens acoustics psychophysics: the concept of loudness is developed, and the effects of noise on humans are clarified. In addition, the physical of ear is introduced, by means of the description of those physical phenomena that bind to the physiology of the ear. It is given a nod to the physics of phonation. Finally, the concept of bionic hearing is introduced and the main bionic subsidies and their sound processing mechanisms are described.
------------------------
MM: AUDIOLOGIA DEI DISORDINI UDITIVI DEL BAMBINO E DELL'ADULTO
------------------------
Learning outcomes The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge on the auditory system functioning and the causes of hearing disorders in childhood, adulthood and old age, with particular attention to the correlation between hearing loss and communication. After completing this module, students will possess knowledge on the causes and effects of these diseases on the acoustic-verbal communicative function.
------------------------
MM: INTERPRETAZIONI AUDIOMETRICHE OGGETTIVE E SOGGETTIVE
------------------------
At the end of the course students should be able to: Estimate the auditory threshold obtained using subjective and objective methods Know the type, characteristics and potential rehabilitation of hearing aids Know the signs to the prosthesis and cochlear implant with particular reference to childhood deafness

Assessment methods and criteria The exam consists of a written test based on some multiple-choice questions and two / three open-ended questions. In open response questions, it is required the ability to match the synthesis and clarity. The closed questions allocate 2 points if the answer is correct; -0.4 if the answer is wrong, 0 points if not answered. Each of the open questions is evaluated from 0 to 10 points, according to: a) relevance of the answer b) ability to synthesize c) properties of language
