Learning outcomes

This course aims at providing the students with basic notions about the various properties of human language as a cognitive faculty and about natural languages, with special focus on the different levels of linguistic analysis.

Program

The lessons will aim at investigating language from different perspectives. We will introduce the principles governing the structure of sounds (phonetics and phonology), words (morphology) and sentences (syntax) and their interpretation (semantics). Furthermore, we will focus on the mechanisms underlying language acquisition and language processing.
