Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
The course aims at presenting the evolution of French Literature from the beginning of XVIIIth century to the first half of XIXth century included. During the lessons, the main literary evolutions and canonical authors will be introduced in order to provide the literary basis and to develop student’s capacity of literary analysis on some main literary texts. Students have to know the literary evolution of the period taken into account and to show their capacity of contextualising the anthological passages presented and commented during the lessons and the primary texts. All these texts must be read in French.
Program
The course, held in French, will focus on French literature from the beginning of XVIIIth century until 1850. Lessons will be organised following a chronological criterium and will take into account the main authors and literary movements of the period. In order to improve student’s critical capacity of analysis and mise en context, some anthological passages and primary texts will be presented and commentes during the course. All these texts, which are paradigmatical of differents periods and genres, must be read in French. Students who can’t attend the lessons are invited to contact the professor and should read all primary texts in the adviced editions, whose préface/introduction is part of their bibliographical program.

Examination Methods
The final exam, held in French, will be an oral discussion focusing on the evaluation of the literary knowledge of the period taken into account (cf. notes from the course and text books) for the first part, while the second one will focus on the critical analysis of the primary texts and of the anthological passages commented during the lessons.
