Learning outcomes

The course aims to give students an overview of buildings archeology and the basic notions to set up a project of stratigraphic survey on archaeological contexts or historical buildings.
Students will have the opportunity to have a first approach, during practical exercises, with software and technological tools used for "structure from motion" processing.

Program

The course provides an overview of buildings archeology, starting from a brief history of studies, and then aims to present methods and techniques developed for study, survey and analysis of historic buildings.
Particular attention will be given to the methodological approach for the study of architectural contexts, from archaeological excavations or preserved buildings.
A part of the course aims to introduce the main methodologies and technologies used for the 3D survey, with particular attention to the 2D / 3D rendering of the built.
The teaching methods include lectures, practical exercises with the use of your own PC and at least one survey session in field. As part of the practical exercises, students will be provided complete datasets for the survey of structures, on which to experiment the photogrammetric applications.

Students intending to participate in the course are requested to send an e-mail to the teacher, to allow a better planning of the theoretical and practical activities; specifying name, surname, course, past archeological experiences and computer knowledges.

Examination Methods

The exam includes an oral interview.
Part of the exam will focus on the presentation of the results of surveys and elaborations set up during the course.
A part of the interview includes some questions on articles related to case studies of building archaeology, photogrammetry and "structure from motion" techniques, suggested during the course.

Texts and materials for the exam will be indicated during the course.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
