Learning objectives

The Urban Geography course aims at teaching students new points of view for the analyses of the city. This approach aims at understanding not just the facts, but also the interpretations provided by the residents, according to the hermeneutical paradigm of knowledge. To that end, the course stimulates the students to develop a scientific curiosity towards the geographical areas and the social actors they study (starting from the city and its inhabitants).

Basic geographical knowledges; basic cartographical knowledges and tools taught in the first and second-year course

Lectures and seminars
Meetings with experts

Learning assessment procedures

Oral exam
The oral test consists of a discussion aimed at verifying:
- the knowledge of the exam programme topics
- the depth and breadth of the acquired knowledge;
- the mastery of scientific language;
- the ability to connect systematically knowledge;
- analytical and argumentative ability
- the ability to apply learnt knowledges and methods to unknown issues.
The final evaluation is expressed in thirtieth.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The mere mnemonic knowledge of the concepts is not sufficient for the successful outcome of the exam.

Will be verified:
ability to discursively organise knowledges;
critical reasoning skills on the study carried out;
quality of presentation;
competence in the use of specialised vocabulary, effectiveness, linearity.
Above all, the ability to apply the methodologies of territorial analysis taught in the classroom or deduced from textbooks to unstudied contexts will be verified and evaluated.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final evaluation is expressed in thirtieth.

Exam language

LINGUA UTILIZZATA NELLA PROVA Italian language. In case of difficulty, foreign students can ask to take the oral exam in Spanish or French. Lingua italiana. In caso di difficoltà gli studenti stranieri possono chiedere di sostenere l'esame orale in lingua spagnola o francese.
